Shop Dog Feature - Zelda at Central West End

Posted on 02.15.2022

As part of a new monthly feature, we will be introducing some of our favorite team members - the Treats Unleashed shop dogs, alongside their human counterparts! Meet Zelda from the Central West End shop in St. Louis.

"Hello, I am Zelda, and this is my store.  I am the Treats Unleashed guard dog, where I protect my friends from giving all their attention to other dogs.  I love coming to work very much, my mahms takes me every Monday and sometimes other days too so that I can see my bestest friend, Paige (the groomer).  My other coworkers are my friends too but Paige is my bestest one after mahm.  She may give me baths sometimes, but I still loves her.
First thing in the morning, I sits in mahm’s lap while she calls other puppies about their grooming appointments, and I bork whenever someone comes to the door so that they know my mahms is protected.  I lay on blankets, or I ride around with my mahms in a sling, and sometimes I sit on the counter while mahms is folding laundry, but she says that I can’t be up there when she does treat things.  I think that is pupsurd, because how else will I get my lunch?  Around lunchtime, when another friend gets in for the afternoon, then mahm takes me outside to do my business, and I get a special fish bite treat when I come in.  Fish bites are my favorite, mahms even made me a fish bite cake for my birthday last year!  Then I get to play with my doggo friends, and sometimes we take naps too.  I get really sleepy after a big day at work, but I am always ready to go back and do it again!"

My name is Madi, and I have worked for Treats Unleashed since August of 2020!  Zelda is a yorkie poo, and I got her as a puppy, just a couple of weeks after I started working here.  I’ve been bringing her with me at least once a week since she was about 5 months old.  Zelda LOVES coming to the store.  I will ask her “do you wanna go to work?” and she starts wiggling and shaking with excitement as I get her harness and leash on. Once we get in, Zelda has to sniff around her whole area before she makes a bed out of the blankets on the floor, though when I’m doing things on the computer, she prefers to sit in my lap.  Zelda is known at the store for barking for attention; she will bark at customers, hoping they will come to the gate and pet her.  We often hear the phrase “I thought she was much bigger by the sound of that bark!” which, of course, she finds very flattering. My favorite thing is to see how much the customers love her; they ooh and aww over her and scratch her head, sometimes they even take pictures of her, and she eats that attention right up.  Whenever I hold her up for a customer to say hi, she stretches as far as she can in my hand to give them kisses.  She spends the rest of her time at work playing with Jana, Nori, and Klaus the poodles, and to play with them, she stands on her hind legs to make herself as tall as she can. At the end of the day, when we get home, she curls up on the couch and falls asleep almost immediately, wiped out from her fun day at work!

You can find Zelda at our Central West End shop at 22 N. Euclid Avenue. Stop by and say hi next time you are in the neighborhood!
