Avoid the Hairy Scaries

Posted on 10.22.2024

As humans, when temperatures dip, we throw on a coat to stay warm and toasty. Pets rely on their coats for the same purpose, which is to protect them and keep them and vital organs warm and insulated through the colder months and wild winter weather.

However, where there’s more hair, there can also be more tangles, more dandruff, more shedding, more odor, etc. Tangles and unkempt hair can eventually form matted patches, which can tug on a pet’s skin and cause discomfort. Matting also affects circulation, and can even serve as a safe haven for parasites to fester.

Thicker coats need a little extra love when it comes to proper maintenance, and grooming is a great solution for keeping a pet’s hair tidy and hygienic.

When it comes to grooming, there are ways to make the process easy and scare-free for the pet and their parents. The key is choosing a groom tech that knows and can work with your pet to make them feel safe and secure through the process Here's how the team at Treats Unleashed works to make your pet feel comfortable on their spa day:

One-on-One Attention: Some other groomers at other institutions make pets wait for their appointments in cages, which can put some pets through unnecessary stress.  At Treats Unleashed, when you show up at your appointment, one of our groom techs will personally come out and take your pup directly into our salon. You will meet your pet’s groomer face-to-face when you drop off your pet. We’ll contact you when your pet is finished, so there is little-to-no wait time. For pets that need privacy, upon request, we do have private kennels available for pets who feel more comfortable.

A Stress-Free Environment: We focus on a low stress environment and a positive experience for all pets in our salons across our 20 locations. At other grooming salons, groomers can be under pressure to complete a certain number of grooms each day to hit a “quota”, causing them to rush or take shortcuts. There is no “quota” at Treats Unleashed. Our groomers are encouraged to take as much time as they need for each appointment to make your pet feel comfortable and give them the perfect custom cut so they go home looking and feeling their best. Also, puppies will not be scheduled for full haircuts on a first visit. Usually, puppies need two or three face/feet/fanny appointments before they are ready for their first full haircut. We start booking full haircuts as soon as the puppy is mentally prepared.

Part of our endeavor to provide a safe and stress-free environment for pets includes the fact that we do not groom pets under any prescription sedation medication out of an abundance of safety. If your pet requires a prescription medication to calm them enough for a grooming appointment, we would recommend seeking a vet who offers grooming services, as they would be better equipped for any emergencies.

Start Simple with a Self-Wash: If you’re interested in bringing your pet to Treats Unleashed for grooming, but don’t want to jump right into the deep end, we have a solution for you: self-wash stations. Our self-wash is a great way for pet parents to give their pet pampering and attention, as well as bonding time. This is a great option for pets with separation anxiety. Also, Treats unleashed provides everything you need to wash your pet in the suite. This includes an elevated tub, shampoo, conditioner, clean towels, cologne/sprays, and more.

Plus, you walk right out the door with a clean and fresh-smelling pet, and we take care of all the cleaning and laundry!
