What Supplements Should I Be Giving My Pet?

Posted on 12.01.2021

You've found the pet food that works best for you and your beloved dog or cat. Fantastic! But maybe your pet needs a boost in other areas of their health. That's where supplements come in. Now, discussing supplements can seem intimidating, but they don't have to be. A supplement is just something extra to add to your pet's diet to help fill in the gaps in their overall health. These can be regular or on an intermittant basis, and do not necessarily require a prescription. (Although we do recommend discussing with your vet first before starting any supplements on a regular basis.)

Just like our pet food recommendations, we start with the question - "What would you like to see in your pet's health? What is their current need?" From here, we can go to some of our favorite additions that are both simple and all-natural. Here are some FAQs from Frequent Barkers where a supplement can help:

"My dog has an upset stomach and I don't want to give them any extra fiber."
Try Primal's Goat Milk in this instance. Dogs and cats love the flavor, and it's loaded with probiotics to help soothe their tummy. Added ginger, turmeric and cinnamon not only make this a delicious pour over, but also help with inflammation. Multiple flavors available in addition to the classic, original Goat's Milk.

"My cat likes the gravy in their cans of food, but leaves everything else behind. I don't want my cat to get less moisture but I don't waste half of their dinner, either."
Primal's Bone Broth can be a great choice here. Feed this in addition to their dry dinner. They'll get the meaty flavor of a gravy without any extra food going to waste. Besides adding crucial moisture to your cat's diet, bone broth also supports joint health, digestive support, and liver health. (A great option for dogs too!) Available in Beef, Chicken, Pork, and Turkey broths.

"My pet's coat seems dull and dry. Should I change their food?"
Before you make a wholesale change on your pet's diet, try a supplement like Ultra Oil for skin and coat health. Ultra Oil features a blend of sardine, anchovy, and hempseed oils that boast Omegas 3, 6 & 9. Adding this to your pet's bowl is extremely easy with their pump dispenser bottles, and it does not have a strong fish smell that is usually associated with fish oils. Ultra Oil can also provide relief for hot spots, allergic breakouts, and even boost joint health. Another great option for dogs and cats.

Big changes start with small steps. If you would like to see more out of your pet's diet or their overall health needs a boost, consider an all natural supplement. From toys to treats to foods to supplements, the team members at Treats Unleashed are always happy to discuss new options for your pet!

We offer carefully chosen, natural solutions, but we believe that veterinary conditions should be diagnosed and treated by professionals.
